Survivor Care Program

Behind every case of abuse is a cat who deserves safety, care, and a chance to recover. Through our Survivor Care Program, we help verified feline abuse survivors and their caregivers access the support they need. Funds go directly to carefully vetted cases to give each cat a chance at a healthy, happy life after recovery.

Program FAQs

Feline Guardians carefully vets each rescuer, ensuring that every cat’s case is legitimate and that funding is genuinely needed. Your donation goes toward verified, essential care for abused cats in need, including veterinary treatment, day-to-day expenses, and travel costs for cats being re-homed.

Whenever possible, donations are made directly to veterinary clinics or supplies are purchased directly, ensuring that funds are never transferred to an individual’s personal bank account.

A small percentage of donated funds will also be used to cover the fees associated with sending and receiving payments.

There are two ways to support cats through the Feline Guardians Survivor Care Program: by donating to our general fund or by sponsoring a specific cat.

Donating to the General Fund

The general fund provides flexible support for cats in need. It allows us to respond to urgent situations where funding is needed immediately, help cats whose fundraising campaigns fall short of their goals, and cover necessary program operating expenses, including accounting, promotions, and other administrative costs. These funds help keep the program running and ensure we can continue supporting cats in need. Donate to the general fund here.

Sponsoring a Specific Cat

When you sponsor a specific cat, your donation is directed toward that cat’s care and approved support needs. If the cat’s fundraising campaign exceeds its goal, any excess funds will be redirected to the general fund to help support other cats in need.

Both options make a difference. The general fund gives us the flexibility to respond where help is needed most, while sponsoring a specific cat allows you to contribute directly to an individual cat’s journey toward recovery.

In the event that we raise more than the initial fundraising goal for any cat, the excess funds will be transferred to the general fund. These funds will be used to help cats whose fundraising campaigns fall short of their goals, respond to emergencies where immediate funding is needed, and cover necessary program-related expenses.

Donations for the Survivor Care Program will never be used to fund other Feline Guardians programs, structures or expenses.

We take vetting very seriously and are committed to ensuring that every case is legitimate. Before support is approved, each case undergoes a thorough review. We communicate directly with the rescuer or caretaker, request photographs and relevant documentation, and assess the circumstances of each case to help verify the cat’s situation and needs. In some situations, we will consult an independent veterinary professional who can verify medical records and clinic recommendations.

Whenever possible, payments are made directly to veterinary clinics and service providers, or we purchase necessary supplies ourselves rather than transferring funds directly to individuals. This allows us to maintain greater oversight of how donated funds are used.

Although no vetting process can eliminate every risk, we are committed to acting responsibly, maintaining appropriate oversight, and continually evaluating the cases we support. Our goal is to ensure that the generosity of our donors makes a meaningful difference in the lives of cats who need it most.
